One of the highlights of my tour, wildly enough, was this virtual panel that opened the Brooklyn Book Festival. This topic, this framing, these writers, this moderator. GET OUT with it! What an honor.
While cookbooks often share recipes that draw on an author’s personal and cultural background, there are a number of recent food books that reach beyond traditional format and tone with a fresh sense of narrative, genre, and language. This virtual panel — featuring Crystal Wilkinson (Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts), Aimee Nezhukumatathil (Bite By Bite), and Lola Milholland (Group Living and Other Recipes) will explore how blending genres and centering personal and cultural memory can create new possibilities for writing about food and writing through food towards so much more. Moderated by Kate Lebo (The Book of Difficult Fruit).
